CA Foundation

CA Foundation Course Details:

The latest entry level for India’s Chartered Accountancy Course is CA Foundation. It used to be referred to as the Common Proficiency Test (CPT).

ELIGIBILTY:

After taking the 12th board or senior inter exams and passing them, the individual may enroll for the CA Foundation test.

SUBJECTS IN CA – FOUNDATION:

The 400-marks CA Foundation exam consists of a combination of descriptive and objective portions. They are as follows:

1. Principles and Practices of Accounting

2. Business Laws and Business Correspondence and Reporting

3. Business Mathematics and Logical Reasoning Statistics

4. Business Economics & Business and Commercial Knowledge.

The first two papers are descriptive, but the latter two are objective and get negative marking.

QUALIFYING MARKS:

• If a candidate receives a minimum of 40% on each paper and a minimum of 50% overall in one sitting, will be deemed to have passed the foundation examination.

• Pass with Distinction: This designation is offered to applicants who earn at least 70% marks.

 

REGISTRATION:

 

Candidate registration for the CA Foundation Course must be done online on the ICAI website. For the May or Nov exam period, the registration deadline is in December or June.

DATE OF EXAMS:

The CA Foundation exam is given twice a year, in May and November. For the November term of the exam, the ICAI will issue the CA Foundation exam schedule in the month of July, and for the May term of the exam, in the month of January.

EXEMPTIONS:

• Graduates, post-graduates, and students with comparable degrees are exempted from the CA Foundation.

• Graduates with a 55% in commerce and other graduates with 60% marks may apply for direct admission to the CA Intermediate.
